Path Less Traveled Therapy is committed to honoring and uplifting every kind of diversity while creating a safe space for you to explore your authentic self. It's never too late to start your journey of self-discovery!
My name is Emily!
Whether you are brand new to therapy or have years of experience, I look forward to helping you on the next part of your journey! Although we haven’t met yet, I accept you exactly as you are. I particularly enjoy working with clients who have felt othered or judged by society, including LGBTQIA+ individuals, geeks and gamers, Wiccans and Pagans, neurodivergent people, and anyone else who is looking for a safe, non-judgmental space to feel truly heard. My therapy style is highly compassionate and personable. I believe that mutual respect, honesty, trust and vulnerability are at the core of effective counseling. I will always be genuine with you and encourage you to be honest with me. I am an eclectic therapist which means that I pull from different therapy modalities to suit each of my clients’ individual needs - this means that if something isn’t working, we can try something different!
I serve clients throughout Texas and offer virtual therapy. I’d love to chat with you and hear more about your goals for therapy. You can schedule a free consultation using the form below. Looking forward to speaking with you!
I offer a wide variety of therapy services to help clients and client systems in their healing processes.
Individual therapy is an excellent way to process your emotions and connect with your true self in a non-judgmental, safe space focused on personal growth and self-exploration. I create a unique environment for each client based on their individual needs. We will work together to create practical strategies to help you achieve your goals one step at a time.
Relationships can be challenging, and it’s normal to have periods of hardship. But with the right support, these challenges can lead to growth and self-discovery. Couples therapy provides a safe and nurturing space for you and your partner to navigate thoughts and feelings, build a deeper understanding of each other, and develop the skills you need to help your relationship thrive.
It can be difficult to find a therapist who knows the intricacies of polyamory/ENM and is non-judgmental, sex-positive, and supportive. Whether you're facing struggles in an existing relationship or exploring polyamory for the first time, I’m here for you. We will work collaboratively to navigate the unique facets of your polycule structure and find the fulfillment and joy that every relationship deserves.
Every family experiences tension or disconnect sometimes. Family therapy can help you navigate these difficult times and overcome any challenges you may face together. My goal is to provide compassionate guidance, working with you and your family to create a better future. Open communication and collaboration are the keys to rebuilding your family connections.
Areas of Specialty
As a neurodivergent (AuDHD) individual myself, I understand on a personal level that traditional therapy techniques don’t always work for us. I approach therapy with a neurodivergent-affirming lens. If you’ve found yourself struggling with executive functioning, fitting in socially, feeling like a burden, and/or anxiety, you are not broken. You just live in a world that was not built with you in mind. You don’t need someone to teach you social skills or tell you to “just try harder,” you need support, empathy, and validation. Chronic illness comes with many challenges that can be hard to understand when you haven’t experienced them. Stigma, shame, grief, chronic pain, and time-consuming doctor’s appointments are just some of the difficulties we face. Therapy can’t cure your illness, but it can help you feel less alone, reduce the additional pain that often comes with anxiety, help you find coping tools, and challenge the stigma that may surround your condition. My role as a therapist is to encourage you, validate your lived experience and choices, and move through your struggles with you as a part of your support system.
Spirituality is about making or finding meaning in our lives, and it looks different for each person. I offer a safe and welcoming space for individuals who identify with minority spiritualities or religions. As someone who has worked with a myriad of backgrounds, including Wiccan, Pagan, Satanist, Agnostic, Atheist, and Jewish clients, I understand the importance and challenge of being seen and heard in this world. I take your beliefs and values seriously and incorporate them however you feel is best for you. Let's work together to explore your spirituality and find a sense of belonging.
If you've had negative or traumatic experiences with religion, I am here to help you work through it in a safe and supportive space. I have experience working with clients who feel confused, have conflicting values, or have always felt othered due to being in unhealthy or non-consensual religious spaces. Because I know many clients may have had bad experiences with therapists who bring religion or spirituality into session without their consent, I respect each client's desires to incorporate or exclude these topics from our sessions. Either way, you will have the opportunity to heal and move forward in your journey towards mental and emotional well-being in a way that honors your consent.
Life Transitions & Grief
Loss comes in many forms and affects each person in different ways. Whether you’re dealing with a death loss, a life transition, a relationship ending, or any other kind of loss, the feelings of grief can be overwhelming and difficult to navigate alone. As a grief therapist, I provide an empathetic and compassionate environment for clients to express themselves and find the strength to persevere during difficult times. Despite what we are often told, grief is not something that can be rushed. I am here to listen, support, and guide you through your journey of healing at your own pace.
LGBTQIA+, Polyamory, ACE & ARO, Kink-Affirming
As someone who's experienced the challenges (and joys) of being queer, I know how isolating it can feel at times. I understand the importance of having a safe and affirming space within a world that is quite often the opposite. Whether you’re queer, gay, pan, trans, genderqueer, ace, aro, kink-oriented, polyamorous, or any other "unconventional" identity, you deserve affirmative services that prioritize and validate your identity and experiences. I have experience helping clients navigate issues such as stigma, trauma, medical challenges, and difficulties in finding community, and I’m here to help you overcome barriers, heal from any hate you’ve faced, and find support and joy in your life.
